Summer 2015 Trends Inspired by The1960's

This year’s fashion has a lot of 1960’s inspiration. From the floral patterns in dresses, to the hair, shoes, and handbags, the 1960’s are everywhere.

Here are some women wear designs that are popular this summer:

The Floral dress. The juniors' hippy-inspired festival wear of poppy florals have moved into the older contemporary market and offer a playful update for jackets, occasion wear and casual work looks.

Palm and banana-leaf print are in as well. Here is a J crew design.

Tribal patterns receive a makeup with a high-summer palette of tangerine, sunny yellow and neon green. The Aztec print is still in, but in bright shades. Here are some knicker shorts:

The Pop culture fashion is back with innovative designs.

Bold stripes like deck chair stripes continue to be a love print this summer.

Artist Showcase - Vitez Art Glass Design

Welcome to this week's Artist Showcase where each week we select a new Etsy artist.  This week our artist is Sani from VitezArtGlassDesign. Sani designs beautiful bookmarks, accessories and ceramics.

How did you get your start?

I was a big fan of arts and crafts since I was little. Having grown up and being the mother of three children and a wife to my husband doesn't leave me with a lot of free time. Not to mention the fact that I also have a regular day job. I still make enough room in my schedule for my work.
I personally make a lot of decorative jewelry, accessorize, ceramic houses, fused glass pendants and, because I love a good book and always have the same problem, beaded bookmarks!

It all started off as hobby of the intriguing sandblasting glass design technique which I started doing with my husband. Later on it became a legitimate business called VitezArt and we're very proud of our work.

Where do you find inspiration?

The inspiration for my work comes to me from the everyday life experience and loved ones. I also learn a lot from other artists right here on Etsy and I'm always surprised to see how many great artists there are and how much we can all learn from each other. The idea for the clay houses came from etsy. I saw some gorgeous little houses in pretty colors and was both inspired and impressed.

What has been your biggest success so far?

For me the biggest success was actually creating my own Etsy shop and having so many people interested in my work. Since I do everything myself, I had to start from scratch. Every step from the first idea to the publishing on Etsy. I'm still learning new things every day and I'm very pleased with my progress so far.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge is to stand out in a community filled with talented artists.

Any advise for someone just starting out?

Just believe in your work and don't give up on trying new things. Etsy is constantly developing and the community along with it, so it's important to stay in touch with what's going on. There's a lot of useful things to learn from other artists and plenty of friendships to be made along the way. :)
Thank you Sani for sharing your story with us.  If you want to see more of Sani's work, you can find her on:

Artist Showcase - Cookie Art London

Welcome to this week's artist showcase.  This week's artist is Szilvia Siklosi, owner of Cookie-Art London.

Tell us a little about yourself and your creative business.

Since I was a kid I loved to be in the kitchen. I spent a lot of time baking with my parents and my sisters. There were two things I was keen on: One is gastronomy and the other one is art & crafts. I trained as a pastry chef in London. I worked in high end pastry kitchens - including the famous Harrods until I decided to start my own business and do what I like the most, decorating.

My cookies are based on a traditional recipe from my home country, Hungary. Where I am come from gingerbread is not just for Christmas. Starting from the 18th/19th century the red heart gingerbread was a love gift. It had a special decoration which was a small mirror in the middle and had some lovely icing around, usually floral patterns. The young men bought them for the girl they fancied or intended to marry on a special day – the day of the Church Saint. On this special day every town and village had a fair with amusements, food, candies and sweets and of course gingerbread. You can still find this tradition but today everyone buys them for friends and loved ones. So with my gingerbread biscuits I keep my own country`s tradition but I transfer the pattern of the icing to the modern era and of course putting on my own touch.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere.  I have been influenced by folk art and mendhi - henna body painting.  I try to follow trends but I also love the vintage look. I collect vintage china which inspires me and sometimes I find inspiration in a color.

What has been your biggest successful moment so far?

I feel that every sale is a success, especially if I get good feedback, and it’s a success that my decorated biscuits put smiles on people`s faces and give them a tasty treat.

What challenges do you face selling online?

I find online selling a bit challenging because you can`t count on a fixed income. One day you have orders, the other day you don`t. Its kind of a mystery what will happen the next day. You have to work really hard to promote yourself, spend lots of time on social media, be member of teams and groups who promote each other. My business is not even a year old, and I haven`t achieved consistency yet here on Etsy, so I know I need to work harder with online marketing to get more sales.

My suggestions to anyone selling on Etsy is to have great photographs, excellent communication with the customer and most importantly to be yourself. Every person is a unique individual, and the individual talent and ideas are what make this site so wonderful.

Thank you Szilvia for sharing your story and your beautiful cookies with us. What a wonderful and innovative gift idea!

Next week we will select another another Etsy artist to feature.  If you would like to be considered for our Artist of the Week, just drop me or Zoica a note via Etsy convo.
